The 6th annual AT&T National golf tournament kicks off this week at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD. Early this week, I had the opportunity to follow Tiger Woods through a 9-hole practice round. He was joined by his regular practice round partner Arjun Atwal. I walked the 2.5 mile front nine of the Blue Course along with about 50 fans. Some fans waited at the course from about 7am to 2pm, waiting for Tiger to appear. It was well worth the wait, as we were able to get much closer than what's typically possible during tournament play.
Although I play golf quite a bit, this was my first time ever attending a professional golfing event. It was cool to see the pros hit their driver tee shots 300+ yards and land on a slim fairway. It gave me a true appreciation for the distance and accuracy of their golf shots.
After Tiger's practice round, I was able to get a photo of Vijay Singh practicing his chipping. Later, he graciously signed his autograph. No autograph from Tiger Woods yet… I think the photos will have to do for now, until next time. The AT&T National golf tournament takes place June 28 – July 1, 2012 in Bethesda, MD.
