The 2012 How Sweet the Sound choir competition took place September 12th at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. I had the opportunity to be backstage for the pre-show media interviews, where many in-depth questions were answered by the six artists who participated as hosts and judges. They fielded questions regarding the importance of this choir competition to the exposure of the gospel music industry, and the impact of opening up the competition this year to community and college choirs. A lot of buzz has been created on college campuses around the country.
Six choirs battled for the title of America’s Best Gospel Choir, with only one earning the highest score. Patrick Riddick & D’Vyne Worship claimed the runner up prize, while the Virginia State University Gospel Chorale won the people’s choice award (text voting by members of the live audience). Congratulations to the winning choir “4 The Caz of Christ”. They will compete in the New York finale in November.
